As bizarre as it may be, it seems like a gorgeous diamond ring, dreamy wedding, picture-perfect honeymoon, and adorable babies are not always the ingredients to a union that lasts a lifetime and divorce announcement.

She was fresh out of teen drama Dawson’s Creek, he was… well, one of the sexiest celebs of the 1980s and 1990s. They met, they dated (for a bunch of weeks), they got engaged, they had a daughter, they got married: all in a whirlwind 18 months. But then, a rift potentially caused by Cruise’s affiliation with the Church of Scientology, brought Holmes to file for divorce seven years down the line.

The arty/eco-friendly/hip(py) pair surprisingly announced its “conscious uncoupling” (“divorce” to all us mortals) in 2014. After ten years together, two children — fittingly named Apple and Moses — and a lot of success both as individuals and as a couple, actress Gwyneth Paltrow and musician Chris Martin were suddenly no longer an item.

The couple married in 1991, and went on to have two kids together (adding to their eight children from previous relationships). Nearly 20 years later, the pair split up, and Caitlyn began her transition from being Bruce to becoming Caitlyn.
