Supermodel Bar Refaeli has been arrested for nine months and has to follow community service tasks for several months. She was evading taxes worth $10 million and has been caught. The scandal includes her mother, who has also been taken in custody and will serve the community.
Bar Refaeli gets arrested for not paying taxes
Bar Refaeli’s mother, Zipi Refaeli, has been sentenced to 16 months of community service and prison life. Her serving has begun along with the daughter.
According to news, the mother and daughter were summoned for the ruling at Tel Aviv courthouse on September 13. Along with serving their term in jail, they also have to pay a $1.5 million as fine. Moreover, they have to pay off the millions of dollars they tried to evade as taxes.
As per her indictment, supermodel Bar Refaeli earned around $7.2 million between 2009 and 2012. She frequently used to travel to international destinations for ad campaigns. The woman was reportedly in an on and off relationship with famous Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio between 2005 and 2011.
Bar Refaeli is a native of Israel and claims that she didn’t always have to disclose money overseas. According to the law of Israel, the tax money should be calculated depending upon where a person stays for most of the time in one year.
The mother, Zipi, has charges against failing to report her income to avoid taxes. She also helped her daughter evade tax, and that is also another allegation on her. The indictment notes that she tried to blur her daughter’s residency by signing leases in the name of other family members.
Bar Refaeli is married to Adi Ezra in 2015, and the couple is parents to one daughter named Liv and a son David. While Liv is 4, David is only eight months old. Thus, the scandal and the outcomes will definitely leave a bad impact on the family.
