What is dandruff and what causes it?
When cold weather arrives and temperatures drop, our skin becomes dry and lacks moisture. This can make it easier for dandruff to develop. When the pH balance of the skin becomes imbalanced in the winter, one’s scalp can also itch from dryness. Dandruff treatments are crucial at this time of year because flakes of dead skin will often fall off, making hair look oily or dirty.
Try one of these six dandruff remedies to treat and cure this skin condition at home:
To prevent dandruff, take two-three egg yolks and mix in a bowl. Rub the mixture into your scalp with a hand and cover your head with plastic wrap or a towel.
Leave it on for thirty minutes and rinse out hair with shampoo and conditioner. Why it works: Egg yolks are filled with biotin which is incredibly important for healthy skin and plays a major role in maintaining it, as well as helping to prevent dry scalp, flakes, and other related problems like scalp infections.

To get rid of dandruff, grind neem leaves in a mixer and mix with a tablespoon of coconut oil. Once the mixture becomes thick, like a paste, put it on your scalp like a hair mask and leave it on for 20 minutes. Why it works: Neem is anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory—making it the perfect way to get rid of dandruff.
Coconut oil penetrates deep into the skin, providing nourishment from the inside out and keeping your hair full of life. Since both ingredients work towards the same goal, they should be mixed together.
To use olive oil for dandruff, massage it into your scalp and cover with a towel overnight. When you wake up, wash it out like normal. Olive oil will moisturize the dry areas of your scalp to prevent flaking, and can also help get rid of dandruff.
In a small bowl, mix four-five one-inch pieces of papaya and one tablespoon of honey. Apply directly to the scalp. Leave on for 15 minutes and wash as normal. Why it works:
Papaya contains enzymes that can prevent and control the excess build up of oil on your scalp, while honey helps locks hold onto moisture while delivering a healthy dose of vitamins A, C, D, E and B complex. Props to beta-carotene and all these minerals! They’re essential for maintaining healthy, balanced skin.
The most common reason your hair is dry is because the natural oils in your scalp haven’t been washed away with regular shampoo. Crush two aspirin tablets into a powder, then combine a teaspoon of the powdered aspirin with your store-bought shampoo and massage it onto the scalp. After five minutes, rinse out the mixture before going to bed and you’ll wake up to new-growth me hair.
Crush two aspirin tablets into a powder. Mix together one teaspoon of your regular shampoo and the crushed aspirin and work into a lather. Massage onto the scalp, leave on for five minutes, then rinse off. The salicylic acid from the aspirin exfoliates and removes surface flakes, leaving your skin looking flake-free.
In a blender, mix together four to five 1-inch pieces of papaya, one tablespoon of honey, and water until the mixture is thick. Apply directly to your scalp and leave on for 15 minutes.
Wash your hair as normal afterwards. Why it works: enzymes in papaya can help prevent build-up of oil on your scalp, while honey helps moisturize dry skin and imparts many vitamins that are great for healthy skin.
Apply olive oil all over your scalp and massage it in. Wrap a towel around your head while you sleep and leave the oil in overnight. After washing your hair and conditioner as normal, you’ll notice that your dry scalp is moisturized, flaking has been prevented, and dandruff will be gone.
