10 Things You Need To Know About Your Health Id Card

Taking a huge step towards the mission and vision of a healthy and digitalised Bharat, our Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Health Mission on 27th September 2021 through video conferencing. PM Narendra Modi first mentioned providing health ID cards to the people of India during his speech on 15th August 2020, Independence Day speech. During the launch, The Prime Minister addressed the digital health mission as a powerful tool to bring a revolutionary change in India’s health facilities.

Here Are A Few Things You Need To Know About Your Health Id Card:

 1. Maintaining Health Records-

This card will act as a digital document containing all your health records like your medical history, the diseases you were/are infected with, the hospitals you visited, the doctors who treated your ailment, medical tests, prescriptions of past and present medicines, blood reports, diagnostic reports, etc. These records will only be updated on the digital card if you consent to it and will help maintain your health-related data in a single place.

2. Voluntary and Free-

Applying to create an Abha Health ID card is voluntary and free of cost. Any citizen of India can apply for and create a health card on its own through an online portal or by visiting a hospital. It’s a public welfare scheme, so there is no charge to create or receive the card after creation.

3. Security of data-

To maintain the security of your records, they will only be accessible by the health service providers if you give them your Health ID card. Any data related to an individual’s health can be sensitive, so the Health Ministry ensures that the portal and application are secured to avoid any discrepancies.

4. Multiple Cards-

You can create multiple Health ID cards for different health issues to share the relevant ID with the healthcare provider. But doing this will defy health cards’ purpose as all the records will only be available in one place.

5. Registration Process-

The process of registration is simple so that everyone can enrol through the online site by following the steps below-

  •        Download the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission mobile application from your Google Play store or visit the website of National Health Authority healthid.ndhm.gov.in
  •          Click on the button Register Now.
  •          Select your preferred language.
  •          Register with your AADHAR or mobile number.
  •          Submit the OTP or One-Time Password sent to the mobile number or registered e-mail id.
  •          Fill in the required personal information.
  •          After the submission, your health ID card is created.
  •          To access your Digital Health ID card in the future, you have to generate a password.

 6. Offline Registration-

In India, a huge population is not accustomed to using digital facilities. This mission was launched to reach out to the citizens in even the remotest area, so all the hospitals have been authorized to take applications for Health ID cards. You can opt for offline registration in any public or private healthcare service centre and provide all the required details.

7. Unique Number-

A 14-digit unique number will be generated for each Health ID card. Like the AADHAR Card, no two Health ID cards can have the same number. This number can then be used for different healthcare facilities.

 8. Maintenance of Privacy-

If you register for a Health ID card using your AADHAR Card, then all your personal information, like name, phone number, date of birth and gender, will be captured while registration. This data will be accessible by NHA as it is attached to the AADHAR. However, if you do not wish to share your details, you can register using your mobile number while disclosing only the required details.

 9. EMR or Electronic Medical Reports-

For accessibility of individuals, doctors and healthcare service providers, Electronic Medical Report will be created. Electronic Medical Reports can be accessed through a Unified Health Interface by various health systems.

10. Control over the Card-

Any individual, at any point in time, can deactivate, reactivate or delete their Health ID permanently. If you deactivate your card, no health service providers can access your medical details. In case of deletion, all the medical records, data and history updated will also be erased from the card.

Conclusion

ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) ID or ABHA Card is free of cost card that helps to provide healthcare facilities. You can create your Abha Id card through the ABHA app.

It’s safe to say that your health ID card may not be the most glamorous or exciting thing in your wallet, but knowing the basics can save you time and stress in the long run. It can also help you narrow down what type of insurance coverage might be best for you and motivate you to keep your information up to date. And, if all else fails, it’s a good piece of backup evidence to carry with you, just in case!

So take care of your health card so it can take care of when you need it most. Then, hang onto it and keep those digits handy so that next time you need to access healthcare services, you’ll be prepared with all the facts at your fingertips.
